Dear Friend:

Attached is an article from the February 10 Chattanooga Times and Free Press entitled "Bend Plan Put On Hold." The article describes the action of elected officials to avoid compromising the state-funded mental hospital. The Friends believes this is the proper approach.

The Friends remains fully commited to the National Park project. We believe that Congressman Wamp's proposal to put 800 acres under the Park Service at the appropriate time is wise. Our long term goal remains a magnificent National Park that will protect, preserve and interpret the unusually rich Native American and Civil War resources. Last year's National Park Service _Cooperative Management Plan_ supports a Moccasin Bend National Historic Site. The friends continues to pursue its goal of a National Paark while avoiding any compromise of the hospital.

We appreciate your support, welcome your comments and suggestions, and will keep you informed.

Best wishes for 2000.

Yours very truly,

Frank M. Robbins, President
